KLI strongly condemns the physical attack against the supervising judge, the attacker has to face justice

Pristina, December 12, 2019 – Kosovo Law Institute (KLI) strongly condemns the physical attack against the supervising judge of the Basic Court in Mitrovica – Branch in Vushtrri, Rifat Bllata.

KLI reacts to this case and other cases of violence perpetrated against the holders of judicial and prosecutorial functions, when they are related to their official duties.

All eventual dissatisfaction of every party in the proceedings must be addressed through legal means and self-judiciary in these cases is unacceptable and affects the independence of the functioning of the justice system, posing a direct threat and interference in judge’s work.

KLI demands from all competent authorities to treat with priority the case of the attack against the supervising judge Rifat Bllata, and the attacker has to face justice as soon as possible.

Only by having a proper functioning of the justice system, the judicial and prosecutorial system, by being protected from all attacks, threats and interference’s, the holders of judicial and prosecutorial functions can exercise their functions independently, impartially and fairly.

In this regard, KLI requires from KJC and KPC to protect judges and prosecutors in all cases of physical attacks and threats of this nature, in order to enable judges and prosecutors to fulfill their mission.
