Civil society organization in support of the protest!: Dismissal of Chief Prosecutor, vetting to judiciary

Pristina, 29 August 2018 – Following the resignation of former Special Prosecutor Mr. Elez Blakaj, we as civil society organizations fully support the organized protest from the group of citizens for the dismissal of Chief State Prosecutor Mr. Aleksander Lumezi. Explanatory letter of Mr. Blakaj signalizes weak integrity of the justice system, in particular state prosecution before political interferences, blackmails and threats that come by the Chief State Prosecutor itself.

Interferences of the Chief Prosecutor Lumezi to avoid confrontation of senior political figures with the justice process are alarming for the justice in Kosovo. On the other hand compose enough facts that we as civil society and citizens to request for its immediate resignation.

We strongly believe that only an independent justice system, with integrity and immune against political interferences can guarantee the rule of law that is prerequisite for the functioning of democratic state.

Resignation of Chief Prosecutor Lumezi, will increase citizen’s confidence in the independent justice, so we support civil protest, and we request that in addition to its dismissal to initiate also the vetting process in the justice system as in all countries of the region.

We call on all citizens to protest today to guarantee an independent justice tomorrow!
